Health Issue                 return to A to Z

see also Sleep apnea

Snoring is the heavy or harsh breathing sound that is sometimes made when sleeping. It is usually not a health issue (see sleep apnea) but can be an indication of not fully resting while sleeping. It can also be annoying and disruptive of the rest of a spouse or others nearby. The cause is usually impairment in the air passageways. It is more common among males than females and among those that are overweight.

Experiences and Testimonials of others

Candymae  - I have recently started snoring (past 2 months) and my boyfriend has actually had to go sleep in the other room because he says it is so bad!!!  I do not know what is causing this , but I don't think that it is sleep apnea!!  I have tried putting breathe under my nose and diffusing it.  I have tried thyme on my big toe and neither seem to help. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated!!

Pat - Try Marjoram in your diffuser, it has worked for others and may be the very thing you need.

John - You may want to try Thyme on the soles of your feet before going to bed , I would use it on the soles of my feet not just on my big toe.

Stella - There is a protocol for sleep apnea using Protective Blend. A friend of my husband is having much success with it and the protocol it suggests!

Editor's note: this protocol is below:

·   Gargle 2 tablespoons of bottled water with 5 drops of Protective Blend.  Prior to bed time, gargle for at least 60 seconds, then swish the mixture through your mouth and teeth for another 60 seconds, then spit.

·   Internal take 1 drop of Protective Blend at bed time.

Cluff - This is what I have just recently told a client to try. The only feed back I have so far is she has tried the combination of Wild Orange and Lavender and had some good sleep that night.   Wild Orange, place a drop on the bottom of each foot and rub it in then do the same with Lavender.

Jan - What works for my husband most of time is lavender, I put it on the bottom of his feet, back of his neck, forehead, under his nose and on his pillow.  I filled a roller bottle up and I just roll it on.  Good luck!

Jan -  Does anyone know about any oils to use for snoring? My husband and I both snore, but his snoring bother's me more than mine bothers him. Any suggestions?

Tamalu - Try Thyme on the bottom of the feet before bed.

BK - For snoring I've always diffused eucalyptus and put cypress on my throat. I'm going to try Thyme on the feet though.

Jenyce - Any oils to help with snoring? Thanks.

Jan - Roommates tell me thyme on the soles of my feet at bedtime works. Depending on the cause, Respiratory Blend could be a very good choice too.

Stephanie - I have my husband gargle with Protective Blend every night and apply cypress to his throat for snoring. He does not snore near as much now, and wakes up much more refreshed than he used to. He sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night or I wake him if he starts snoring and applies more cypress. It’s helped both of our sleeping habits.

DH - Oh man, I'm breaking out the oils right now to slather them on my man immediately!  He sounds like he's entered a tractor pulling contest! I did find, however, that when I slept with eucalyptus and peppermint in the diffuser for my recent sinus infection he slept so much sounder and the snoring was really minimized.
