Pneumonia

Respiratory SystemPneumonia, an infection of the lungs, can be caused by bacteria, viruses, mycoplasma, fungi, or even parasites.  The infection can be isolated to one or the other lung and can be centered in any number of locations within the lung (there are over 30 different types of pneumonia).  Depending on the severity of the infection the symptoms may be mild , called walking pneumonia, or life threatening.  Since bacteria or other invading agents are common to our environment they may routinely enter our lungs but our natural immune system will prevent them from multiplying and causing harm.  If our immune system is weakened from other disease or Alveolifrom side effects of medications we become more susceptible to pneumonia.

Typical symptoms may include coughing, headache, weakness, muscle pain, fever, shortness of breath, chest pain, and even diarrhea.  Children and the elderly may exhibit few symptoms beyond the tiredness and a fever.  Depending on the location of the infection the different symptoms will develop.   If the infection is in the bronchial tubes the coughing and phlegm are more pronounced.  If the infection is deep in the lungs in the air sacs (alveoli) then shortness of breath is more prominent.  Pain in the chest suggests the infection is near the outer lining, the pleura, since that is the only area of the lung with pain sensors.

Suggested protocols:

Pneumonia can vary from mild to life threatening.  For serious conditions seek professional medical attention. Listed below are protocols others have found successful.  For some it may require the combination of all the procedures. Remember consistency is a must for success.

Antibacterial/antiviral blend

Blend in a 00 capsule and take 3 times per day or apply on bottoms of the feet:

·  4 drops On Guard

·  3 drops  Oregano

·  3 drops Frankincense

·  fill with FCO

Chest and inhale

Put Breathe on the chest several times per day and cup and inhale from your hands after every application.  You could augment the inhalation therapy by diffusing or making a steam bath with Breathe by placing a towel over your head and breathing the fumes deeply as the oils volatize (keep your eyes closed).   Also consider the T Shirt Tent technique.

Gargle and Oil Pull

Gargle and spit Oregano and Lemon with one tablespoon of water or carrier oil hourly. Use a shot glass and be careful not to allow the oils to touch lips. Also hourly oil pull with FCO and On Guard.

Lots of water with oils

Drink lots of liquid (water) with drops of Lemon and Peppermint in it.

Enema Blend

Two retention enemas of the blend listed below.  One at night before bed time, a second (set the alarm) 2 hours prior to getting up in the morning.  This will allow at least one full sleep cycle before the enema. (the reason for this uncomfortable protocol is that this is one of the more effective ways to get oils deep into the lungs)

·  2 drops On Guard

·  2 drops Oregano

·  2 drops Rosemary

·  2 drops Frankincense

·  2 drops Peppermint

·  Fill the remainder of a 00 capsule with FCO and insert appropriately or add the oils and approximately 25 drops of carrier oil to the enema syringe.

Blends may also be added to a capsule and used as a suppository.

AromaTouch Technique or Back Massage

At least once daily, do a back treatment using Balance, Thyme, Oregano, Basil, Cypress, Marjoram and On Guard.  Applying the oils one at a time, and following up with a healthy massage and then apply heated towels to the back for about 5 minutes or until the towels cool to body temperature, reheat and apply again.

Tenesa - I  recently got Pneumonia, suddenly and severely.  Within the first 12 hours, my temperature hit 104; it was 2 a.m. and I did not want to go to the ER. I remembered Peppermint was supposed to reduce fever, but had never used it before.  So, I blended 5 drops with some fractionated coconut oil and applied it to my forehead, temples, neck, feet and hands.  In 30 seconds, the fever dropped .5 a degree.  In 30 minutes, it was down another degree.  I was able to stop shaking with chills and sleep.  Peppermint and On Guard kept me out of the hospital that weekend, and helped me recover enough to go back to work in one week.  Amazing.

Heather - We are on week 8 since my daughter came down with the flu.   A week and a half ago she developed fluid in her lungs, was not eating well and burning the candle at both ends.  We know it is a viral infection so antibiotics are not going to help. We have used a number of oils but it is not helping fast enough.  Any help?

Brooke - Have you tried having her take Melissa internally?  I know it is expensive - but my mom felt that it really helped turn her around.  I gave her a capsule full of Melissa, and another one of On Guard.  In your case it wouldn't hurt to do it three times a day. Hang in there - consistency (like every hour) is the key to knocking this out!

Sharon - An old remedy for pneumonia is minced fresh garlic in shortening put on the bottom of the feet, wrap in plastic and put socks on.  My little sister got it several times a year and this fixed it every time.  I'd suggest putting whatever oils you choose in the mixture also, On Guard and Breathe especially.  Also, look up "Butt bomb"  by Rob.  I will leave it at that!

Kendra - I have a friend with pneumonia and I am giving her the Breathe and what else would you recommend?

Pat - Have her take Lemon and Frankincense in a capsule 3 time a day until she is feeling better.  Also brush her teeth and gargle with On Guard and if she is brave enough for instant relief she can gargle with Lemon and Oregano for at least 30 seconds.

Rob -Pneumonia is nasty and you have to claw, fight and strain to beat it. It’s not easy, but I know of those that have succeeded.  You have to use oils that are effective fighting bacteria and virus and allow the body to balance and heal itself.

Do this blend in a 00 capsule and take 3 times per day:

·  8 drops On Guard

·  6 drops  Oregano

·  6 drops Frankincense

·  10 drops coconut oil

I would also do two retention enemas of the blend listed below.  One at night before bed time, a second (set the alarm) 2 hours prior to getting up in the morning.  This will allow at least one full sleep cycle before the enema.

Enema Blend (Butt Bomb):

·  4 drops On Guard

·  4 drops Oregano

·  4 drops Rosemary

·  4 drops Frankincense

·  4 drops Peppermint

·  Fill the remainder of a 00 capsule with coconut oil and insert appropriately or add the oils and approximately 25 drops of carrier oil to the enema syringe.

I would also at least once daily, do a back treatment using Balance, Thyme, Oregano, Basil, Cypress, Marjoram and On Guard.  Applying the oils one at a time, and following up with a healthy massage and then apply heated towels to the back for about 5 minutes or until the towels cool to body temperature, reheat and apply again.

I would gargle and spit Oregano and Lemon with one tablespoon of water or carrier oil hourly. Use a shot glass and be careful not to allow the oils to touch lips. Also hourly I would oil pull with coconut oil and On Guard.

I would drink lots of liquid (water) with drops of Lemon and Peppermint in it.

And finally I would put Breathe on my chest several times per day and cup and inhale from your hands after every application.  You could augment the inhalation therapy by making a steam bath with Breathe bu placing a towel over your head and breath the fumes deeply as the oils volatize (keep your eyes closed).

I know this is nearly an overwhelming effort, but pneumonia doesn’t back down, neither should we when at war with this nasty virus or bacterial infection.  It requires a number of oils and some effort – especially by a care giver. The best news is that the sooner you can begin some of this therapy the better.  If pneumonia is able to set in and grow in the lungs, it is difficult to get rid of.

Protocols folks recommend for children

Melanie - Has anyone recently dealt with pneumonia with kids?

Pat -Yes, my friend has a seven month old and a 2 year old, both diagnosed with pneumonia. She has been building a steam tent using Breathe on the 2 year old and Eucalyptus on the baby. She boils water adds the oils and places a blanket over her and the child. The pot is placed away from the child's reach and the steam with oils keeps the child clear and breathing. She repeats it every couple of hours. She is using Frankincense, Lavender and Melaleuca with coconut oil on their feet and spine. They turned the corner today and are doing so much better.

Natalie - I do the spinal treatment with Oregano, Thyme, AromaTouch, and Peppermint followed with a hot compress for 10 minutes.  I also have my daughter take 3 capsules a day of Oregano, On Guard, and Lemon (4 drops each) which for a younger child could be applied to the feet.  My daughter is asthmatic and gets pneumonia at least once a year.  The oils have worked great in our home!  You can use them with antibiotics if they are nervous to use only oils.

Melanie - If they take antibiotics, how much time do you let pass between that and applying/ taking the oils?  I was wondering in terms of number of hours before or after taking  the medicine, so it doesn't interfere with the oils.

Pat – I would start the oils right away and if I were forced to take antibiotics I would take them at the same time. It would just make me feel better. If you are nervous about taking the oils with the medications then wait 24 hours and then use the oils!

Diet and Nutritional complements to essential oils

What Science & Research are saying

98th General Assembly of the American Society of Microbiology
Dr. Diane Horne, Weber State University

Synopsis (by Robert James)

Research found that some essential oils, Oregano, Thyme and Rosewood oils, in particular, create an autolytic reaction in organisms, including Streptococcus pneumonia.

Dr. Horne told the 98th general assembly of the American Society of Microbiology about the serendipitous discovery of the impact of the oils on cells such as Streptococcus pneumonia. A co-researcher was spraying aromatic oils in the laboratory. "When I looked at the S. pneumonia that I was preparing for another experiment, the cells were just falling apart," Dr. Horne reported

The best results occurred with Oregano, Thyme and Rosewood and intermediate inhibition of the pathogens was achieved with Cinnamon oil and Clove oil, Dr. Horne said at a poster presentation at the meeting. Dr. Horne pointed out that the oils also showed efficacy against E. coli and several species of fungi.
