Essential Tremors is a nervous disorder that can develop
at any age but is more common in some older folks. Although
appearing similar to a symptom of Parkinson’s disease it is
not a result of it or any other disease. It also does not
lead to Parkinson’s although it can coexist with it. It does
have a genetic component and may repeat from generation to
The tremors are grouped into three general categories.
Rest tremors occur when
a body part or limb is completely supported and at rest such
that no muscle contraction is necessary but the muscles
activate the unnecessary trembling.
occur when a body part is held motionless against the
natural force of gravity and trembling happens. Pointing
with the hand extended would be an example.
occur when a body part is voluntary moving in a task and
trembling happens. Drinking from a glass or speaking with a
tremor would be examples.
One or all categories can occur in an individual. The
most common area for essential tremors is the hands, much
less the head, then lower limbs and voice. Tremors are
exacerbated with lack of rest and stress. Essential tremors
progress with aging at variable rates in individuals for
unknown reasons. In fact, although the underlying cause
seems to be neurological they have not identified the cause
and there are no other associated neurological problems
found in those suffering from essential tremors.

Has anyone had a chance to use
doTERRA oils for essential tremors, if so
how did they work and how did you use them?
Pat - Yes, I have a client who used them for this. Two
drops of Frankincense under the tongue daily and rubbed up
the spine as needed.
Lily - Can
anyone tell me which oils and protocol might be effective
for quieting essential tremor which my husband has been
diagnosed with? It appears only in his hands when he is
active. It stills when he is relaxed. It is magnified if he
is nervous or if he has been doing strenuous exercise.
I have been able to calm it a little bit using "creativehealing"
massage but it always seems to return.
Phil - My mother has familial tremors.
I think they are the same as essential tremors, they are
not associated with or common to Parkinson’s (thank
goodness). My mother’s is apparently a result of genetic
mutation, something that I may have to look forward to
I have concentrated my efforts on oils that would benefit
the nervous system. I believe our efforts have nearly
completely stopped the recurrence of tremors, especially as
we are consistent in our protocol. In the morning my sister
whom lives with her does a massage using about 6-8 drops of
the following blend;
30 drops Balance
30 drops Frankincense
60 drops coconut or carrier oil
She works neck (jugular vein), brainstem, shoulders and
area forward toward the breast bones. She also tries to get
her to take the LLV supplements. At first she was stubborn,
but she recognizes how much better they make her feel. At
night she does a similar massage using a couple drops each
of lavender, peppermint and carrier.
Finally, every Sunday, we give her a “raindrop” type
massage first using the aroma touch oil with carrier and
following up with the Balance and Frankincense blend. We
would rotate weekly between a back massage (raindrop) and a
stimulating scalp massage using the same oils.
Other things we’ve learned, don’t drink caffeine or
alcohol, and try to reduce stress from your life. There are
many good oils for this… Use Serenity, ylang ylang, or
lavender as a foot rub at night before bed, etc., or use
these oils if there are times of stress and anxiety. I know
everyone is different. Frankincense and Peppermint help my
anxiety tremendously; my wife loves Serenity or Balance and
Whisper for her bouts with anxiety. And try to get good
nightly rest… Good REM cycles!
Her doctor prior to this, recommended beta blockers (used
for HBP) and tranquilizers. These both came with serious
short and long term side effects, so she did not stay on
Evie – I have
been contacted by someone who had mercury poisoning from
mercury fillings not being removed properly. The mercury
was in her too long and got into her brain before she took
action to remove it. Now that the mercury is gone she
said..."now I just need something to rewire my brain to
quiet the tremors". My first thought is to have her use
frankincense and the aroma touch method; but not sure how to
advise her.. Please help!
Pat - I would have her do the
Zendocrine Cleanse, use the Zendocrine blend on the liver
area, drink lots of lemon water to flush the toxins, drop
2-3 drops of Frankincense under the tongue daily and doing
the Aroma Touch is a blessing and will help also.
FEPW - Does anyone
have any experience with tremors (or know of anyone who has
used E.O. for it)? I have a friend whose mother in law has
tremors (but was told that it is not Parkinson's).
Pat - I would go with Frankincense and
Rosemary, I would also encourage the Aroma Touch Technique.
Has anyone ever suggested the LLV? I would have her use
Frankincense rubbed along the spine and a couple of drops
under her tongue daily.
Jan - Just in case this fits here...
There is a lot of evidence that shows fake sugars such as
Aspartame can cause tremors. In fact, I have a friend whose
husband is a neurologist and he only accepts patients who
agree not to use Aspartame and it's many cousins. Just in
case this fits here.
Brooke - I was also
wondering if anyone has had personal experience in helping
with tremors. This person has had Parkinson’s ruled
out – and pretty much everything else as well. Nothing
has shown up in blood work, MRI’s or other testing.
The hands still shake – and they are weak. I would
recommend Frankincense – since it is great for neurological
issues, but is there any other recommendations?
Sunny - A friend of mine gave her uncle
cypress to calm his hand tremors. They worked when nothing
else did. He, also, did not have Parkinson's.
Pat – I also would use frankincense
however adding Helichrysum would help also. The power in the
Helichrysum to regenerate would be very helpful. I would
also suggest going on the LLV.
