EarAn earache is most commonly an infection in the ear canal or surrounding structures. This can be a variety of infectious agents from the common viral infection of a cold to other, more difficult, infections. Other causes to look for in infants and small children are irritations caused by cleaning with a cotton swab or reactions to shampoos or other cleaning products. Pain from an ear infection usually is a result of fluid being trapped and putting pressure on the eardrum. Beyond the pain and loss of hearing other symptoms include:

·    Mucus drainage from the ear

·    Fever (100 F, 38 C or higher)

·    Irritability and loss of appetite in infants and children

·    Loss of balance or vertigo

·    May be accompanied with sore throat, vomiting or diarrhea

Suggested protocols:

A detailed protocol for a young child:

·    Put 3 drops of Basil on 1/2 of a cotton ball and push lightly into the ear (do not place oils directly in ear, the vapor from the cotton ball will penetrate and reach the infection)

·    For added pain relief rub a few drops of Grapefruit behind and around the outer part of the ear.

·    With the child laying down place a warm wash cloth over the ear.

·    With an ear infection there is a good possibility the lymph nodes have accumulated the toxins so a further precaution would be a lymphatic massage.  Lightly massage with Frankincense, Grapefruit and a carrier oil from under her ear, down the length of the neck towards the heart.

·    Add more Basil to the cotton ball every 2 or 3 hours.

Other suggestion:

·    Oregano is a very strong antibiotic oil but is too "hot" to apply on most using the cotton ball technique or around the ear. On the other hand it and other oils may be applied directly to the bottoms of the feet. 1 or 2 drops applied every 2 or 3 hours will be sufficient in most situations.

Special Precautions: Do not apply oils directly into the ear canal.

Two years ago when my son Adam was 5 years old, he had perforated an eardrum and put on antibiotics for the first week. In the meantime I met Cherie Garret who introduced me to (...). I told her of my concern about using the antibiotics and she suggested I use Oregano under Adam's feet 3 times per day for a few days. Well.... as soon as my kit arrived, for some unknown reason I went to the Pharmacy to have the second script of antibiotics filled. Upon returning home I looked at the bottle the Pharmacy had given me, and had a bottle of Oregano in my other hand.. this was a major call, but I trusted that I knew what was right, and I threw the antibiotics in the bin.

From the very first application of oregano my son stopped whimpering. He was in extreme pain beforehand for a couple of weeks. I used the Oregano 3 times per day as suggested under his feet, with the application of a little coconut oil, and used this method for the following 11 weeks. Why 11 weeks?... well the Pharmacist told me he would need antibiotics for that long, as it were to be 10 weeks away from having his operation to insert grommets. So anyway, after day 4, the ear had healed to the point there was nothing running out of it, he looked 100% better, and was feeling much better. I continued the use of the Oregano for a week after the op just to make sure he didn't have any infection after having the op. The oregano cleared up his infection in such a short time, I was so so grateful for being introduced to (...) that I have been continuously purchasing these amazing products since.

I want all parents to have these tools, as they saved me much heartache and concern, when the Pharmaceutical antibiotics did nothing. Thank you Dr Hill for your integrity. I have never looked back.

Revellie -
We just got through an ear infection without the use of antibiotics. I am so very grateful for (...) essential oils for this gift. Here's how it all went down...

Cora was sick with a fever and we were taking care of the sniffles and fever with Respiratory Blend, Peppermint, and a cool mist humidifier. This had been going on for about 4 days when she had her 2 year old check up. Her spirits were high and you really couldn't tell she was sick besides the fever and runny nose, but when the doctor looked in her ear he said it was close to perforating -that means rupturing. He gave us a prescription for an antibiotic (I think he knew I wasn't going to fill it).  When we got home I read in the Modern Essentials book about ear infections and decided to give the protocol a try.

I bought a cool mist humidifier for the living room and bedroom. I put Cleansing Blend, Melaleuca, and Lavender on cotton balls and affixed them to her ears with a band aid. I used Frankincense and Respiratory Blend on her chest and bottoms of her feet. I did this for 5 days and then started applying the Cleansing Blend behind her ears and swiping it with a cotton swab to the outer inside ear.

Today her fever is gone and she has stopped tugging at her ears. She has some residual snotty nose. I will continue the protocol for another few days which puts us at 10 days and we will go from there. Yea again for essential oils!

Dani - I have had many experiences with (...) essential oils in the last few months and I would like to share them with others.

Last week, my son had a rough couple hours. I couldn't figure out why he couldn't stop screaming! After a while, I finally put some Thyme and Lavender on a cotton ball and put it in his ears. MAGIC!!! He was sound asleep in minutes!! AMAZING!!! I can't believe how amazing these oils are!

Leah - I wanted to address ear infection and wax build up. You might want to try rubbing basil around the ear. For me personally, it helped discharge a bit of wax at first, and thereafter it keeps ear infections at bay. I don't put it on everyday now, just whenever I feel my ear being tender.
