bunion is a bony protrusion on the side of the big toe or in
some less common cases on the outside of the small toe.
The protrusion at the joint of the base of the toe can
become irritated, swollen and painful. As the
protrusion becomes larger the toe bends toward the second
toe causing further sources of irritation. There
appears to be multiple causes of a bunion. Genetically
the foot may be shaped such that normal activity puts
excessive pressure on the big toe eventually causing a
bunion. Some suggest footwear that does not fit
properly may also put excessive pressure and cause a bunion.
The protrusion may be excessive bone structure or a fluid
sac called the bursa that becomes inflamed. In any
case the deformity of the toe makes it difficult to find
proper fitting footwear, is not a pleasant sight, and can be

Experiences and Testimonials of others
Mel – My aunt has
two big bunions on her foot and was going to have surgery.
I asked her to give the oils a try first, I want to send
her a package and looked in the book at it only has Cypress,
I looked up Cypress and it doesn't really seam like that
would be the one I would choose, I was thinking more along
Lemongrass? Does anyone have any experiences/testimonies for
anything for bunions with protocols and about how long it
took before there was a change in them?
Pat - You are basically asking the oils
to dissolve bone? The Lemongrass might do some of it but it
will take a long time. Hope someone has a success story to
Sharon - I have friends that use other
oils and recently heard something about scoliosis and how
the oils can help to move bones. I would think doTERRA
oils would do the same for bunions or not? Maybe
someone knows what oils are used.
Pat - The movement of the bones is
actually the oils taking care of major inflammation and
repair of tendons and ligaments so the bones can go back to
the way they were supposed to be.
Christine - I have a friend who is a
massage therapist and she tells of applying Lavender on a
gal's spine with scoliosis and literally watched the spine
straighten. Those were not even doTERRA oils, so how
much better will doTERRA work.
Tamalu - One of the reasons Cypress is
listed for bunions is its ability to help the body's
circulation. Circulation is crucial for healing. I have
successfully used the oils to eliminate bunions by using
Balance, Wintergreen, Lemongrass, AromaTouch and/or Breathe,
and Deep Blue, PastTense or Immortelle if there is a lot of
pain associated with the bunions. I use the Balance on the
bottoms of the feet and the back of the neck, and generally
clean all of the oils off the hands after application to the
feet by wiping them on the back of the neck, as well. (If
you look at your chart in your reference book, you will see
that the area of most bunions corresponds with the neck
region. It is fun to see what happens with the neck and
spine as you work on the bunions consistently.) Do this at
least twice daily. It can take months, or it can take a
week to see a difference in the size of the bunions. We are
all different. Some are more aggressive than others.
Adding Lifelong Vitality to your program will stimulate
quicker effects. Covering the feet with socks after applying
the oils will amplify the effects of the oils and speed
things up. Always, ALWAYS drink much more clean
water. I'm excited for your aunt to have this experience.
Hopefully you will keep us updated on her progress!
Janine - Hello! Any
success stories with bunions?
Pat – I would go with the recommended
Deep Blue, Basil or Cypress plus Lemongrass added to it.
Janine – Will it make them go away or
just relieve the pain?
Pat – Should do both, however it will
take time and patience and above all be consistent.
Jeannie - I used Cypress alone for a
very very long long time BUT it worked! no more bunion. It
wasn't a huge one and I didnt' want to go to that point
however it hurt like the dickens. I also went to more
sensible shoes and only where my cutsies on special
Cheryl - My friend
had bunion surgery almost a month ago and still has swelling
in her foot. She was skeptical about EO's but was desperate
and let me put a few drops of Grapefruit and Lemongrass on
her toe, foot and behind her knee. We applied them at 4pm
for a "test drive" to see how she reacted. Nothing really
happened so I came back at 9 pm to apply for bedtime. I
added a few drops of Helichrysum because she mentioned her
doctor. said she might have the start of phlebitis. She
said at 10:30 pm, 1 am and again at 4 am she had a burning
sensation internally all the way from her toe up to her
knee. She was not happy. Does anyone know if this is
a common reaction or if I should have done something else?
Brooke - I have personally experienced
something similar, and I recently met someone who had a
similar story. Helichrysum is a very unique oil. I
personally had pulled all the tendons or ligaments or
something on the top of my foot when I fell down some stairs
a couple of months ago. I couldn't even put on a shoe!
I used several oils (Lemongrass, Marjoram, White Fir, and a
couple of others), and they worked great! Within three days
I was fine. Well, last week I got up wrong, and the top part
of my foot pulled again.
This time, I put Helichrysum on the top of my foot right
before I went to bed. It started hurting SO bad. I put
Deep Blue (which has Helichrysum in it) and a few others on
thinking it was just crazy it would start to hurt!! (because
it hadn't before) It took about an hour, but the pain
finally subsided, and I went to sleep. The next
morning I woke up, and my foot did NOT hurt at all. It was
perfectly fine, and I had no pain from the re-injury to the
top of my foot.
The same thing happened to to my friend - she had hurt
her foot doing fitness stuff, went to her first oils meeting
and they applied Helichrysum. It hurt so bad all the way
home - she thought they were crazy using oils. Until
the next morning when the pain was GONE!!She became a
believer in oils. My understanding is the Helichrysum
is able to go in and basically "re-knit" tissues together.
Sometimes there is pain associated with that, sometimes
there isn't. Don't give up because, maybe that is what the
oils were doing - their JOB! It takes time to figure out
what works best for everyone, and if they will be patient,
the oils can and will work!
I hope this helps your friend. I am so grateful I have
been persistent, because it is paying off!
Editor - A positive
experience about bunion surgery. Note the doctor's
Bev. G. - I have a good experience
to share. My sister recently went through 2 different
bunion surgeries (about 7 weeks apart). After the first
week (because her foot was wrapped), she put Deep Blue all
over her foot (except where the incision was. She put
Frankincense or Helichrysum on the scar). At her first
appointment with the podiatrist, he was in shock. There was
very little bruising and no swelling. "I've never seen
anyone heal so fast! Whatever did you do?" She showed him
her Deep Blue roll-on. He was flabbergasted, "I've never
seen anything like it in all my years of practice." She was
thrilled. I thought I would share, in hopes that it might
help someone else out there.
